SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Despite giving up three runs in the ninth with the winning run at the plate, the T-Bones held on for a 6-5 win over Sioux City on Monday night.

The T-Bones raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Jairo Perez recorded his team-leading eighth home run of the season, scoring Kennard Jones from second base. Perez has now homered in three straight games and five of Kansas City’s last six contests.

The T-Bones took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a Devin Goodwin solo home run, before adding three more in the sixth after an error by Sioux City first baseman Wally Backman Jr. With one out and two runners in scoring position, Felix Molina grounded a ball that went under the legs of Backman. The T-Bones took a 6-1 lead after the inning.

Sioux City wouldn't back down, as they added one run in the eighth and three in the ninth, before Jhonny Montoya (7) got Palmer Karr to ground out to Matt Padgett at first for the final out.

Kansas City starting pitcher Eric Gonzalez (1-0) pitched 7 1/3 and allowed just two earned runs, and now has pitched 13 innings of two-run baseball as a member of the Kansas City T-Bones starting rotation.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday with a 7:05pm first pitch. Aaron Tullo (3-0) will start for Kansas City, and Josh Rainwater (1-4) getting the start for Sioux City.
