ArtMakers’ Place to host second annual art exhibit

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- ArtMakers’ Place, a program and location of Wyandot Center, will host “Images of Hope,” the second annual exhibit of consumer art on Thursday, Nov. 14, 4 to 6 p.m. at the studio, 756 Armstrong Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The exhibit of more than 50 works is open to the community.

“Images of Hope” will feature the work of clients involved in art therapy and psychosocial groups of Wyandot Center. Wyandot Center is Wyandotte County’s designated community mental health center that provides services at multiple locations and in community-based settings for adults experiencing depression, anxiety or other mental disorders.

“We’re thrilled with the work in this year’s exhibit,” says Tamara Schardt, ArtMakers’ Place coordinator and art therapist. “A number of the works will also be featured in the 2014 calendar we are publishing.”

Schardt says that’s what most important is that the exhibit reflects the healing power of art that is being experienced in the lives of Wyandot Center’s clients. “These stories are the reason ArtMakers’ Place exists and great cause for celebration through the exhibit,” she says.
