By ALAN HOSKINS

With a well-balanced opening 72-38 win under their belt Friday, Kansas City Kansas Community College’s Lady Blue Devils are right back in action Monday night when they host Ottawa University’s JV in a 6 p.m. tipoff.

The Blue Devil men, a 74-69 exhibition winner over Saint Mary’s JV Friday, will also be in action Monday when they host Livin’ The Dream, a collection of former college and pro players in an exhibition game at 8 p.m.

Four Lady Blue Devils – all freshmen – scored in double figures and three others added seven points each in the 72-38 win over North Central Missouri Friday night. “Our defense stepped up and our post play got better in the second half,” said KCKCC Coach Valerie Stambersky. The Blue Devils led 33-19 at halftime.

Cassidy Harbert of Wichita Northwest and Rashaun Casey of Bentonville, Ark., each had 11 points and Julia Garrard, also of Bentonville, and Kalah Jiggets of Irving, Tex., added 10 points apiece while sophomore Samantha Hurst of Harrisonville, Imani White of Omaha Burke and Janai Mitchell of Salina South each contributed seven.

Iland Shurn, a freshman from Bishop Miege, led the rebounding with nine while White added seven and Garrard and Harbert six each.

Brandon Ward, a sophomore transfer from Highland in Illinois, had 20 points and six rebounds, C.J. Vallejo of Bishop Ward 12 points and freshmen Anthony Ridley and Lucas Smith nine points each to lead the KCKCC men in their exhibition win.

Basketball will fill the KCKCC Field House this coming weekend for the annual Keith Lindsey Classic.

In women’s play, No. 1 ranked Johnson County will play Neosho County at 2 p.m. Friday with KCKCC facing Benedictine’s JV at 6 p.m. while men’s play will send Highland against On Point Academy at 4 p.m. Friday and KCKCC against North Arkansas at 8 p.m. KCKCC will then swap foes with JCCC and Highland Saturday with games at noon, 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
