KCKCC Jazz programs to perform at the Green Lady Lounge

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- The Kansas City Kansas Community College Jazz Program will be displaying its jazz talents during an upcoming performance at the Green Lady Lounge.

The showcase, which will feature the jazz band, jazz combos, vocal jazz ensembles and student jazz soloists, will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Green Lady Lounge, 1809 Grand Ave. in Kansas City. The concert will be free and open to the public.

“It will give our students a chance to have a real life jazz experience,” said John Stafford, director of Choral Music at KCKCC. “To perform at one of the major clubs for us is a special treat to give them experience in a professional situation and to perform for an audience that might not know about our great music program.”

The Green Lady Lounge features exclusively jazz music performed by Kansas City jazz musicians. Live, no-cover jazz performances are offered Tuesday through Sunday.

Stafford said the showcase will give the public an opportunity to learn more about KCKCC and the jazz program. Although the concert is free, donations will be accepted for upcoming trips by both the choir and band.

The Vocal Jazz group is going to New York City next spring, and the Jazz Band has just accepted an invitation to perform at the Havana International Jazz Festival in December 2014 in Havana, Cuba.
