KCKCC volleyball season ends

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- It took the No. 3 ranked team in the nation to prevent Kansas City Kansas Community College from returning to the NJCAA Division II national volleyball tournament.

Playing on its home court, No. 3 Johnson County (28-6) eliminated the Lady Blue Devils in Region VI final round playoff action in four stets (25-15, 25-15, 17-25, 25-19) Saturday to advance to the national tournament in Toledo, Ohio, Nov. 21-23.

KCKCC had reached the finals by ousting Highland 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 while JCCC was eliminating Allen County in straight sets. The loss ended the Blue Devils’ season at 21-11 with all 11 losses coming at the hands of nationally ranked teams.

The No. 1 ranked team in Division II and 2011 national champion, Cowley (31-4), swept Fort Scott and No. 20 Neosho County in straight sets to advance to the national tourney in the other Region VI playoff.
