KCK Police Department to suspend chase policy

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- Following the death of a seven-year-old girl that occurred after a vehicle fled a routine traffic stop, the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department will temporarily suspend its chase police, KMBC Channel 9 is reporting.

KCK Police Department Chief Ellen Hanson told Channel 9 that the department will "revise" its policies and will only initiate chases in the cases of a serious felony.

Seven-year-old Jasmine Rodriguez was killed on 63rd and Leavenworth Road after the vehicle she was in was struck by the one being pursued by police.

It's the second instance of an innocent civilian being killed during a police chase in KCK. Graciela Olivas was killed in a similar manner during a police chase in February.
