Gilstrap latest Wyandotte County candidate to file papers

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Former Kansas Sen. Mark Gilstrap is the latest name to file for election in Wyandotte County.

Former Kansas State Senator, Mark Gilstrap, Wyandotte County, has filed for the open position of Wyandotte County District 1 at-large Commissioner.

Gilstrap, a recent retiree from the Finance Department of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County has served as Assistant City Auditor, Assistant City Treasurer, City Treasurer, Assistant County Treasurer and Deputy Revenue Director in his 33 years of service.

“It is my hope that my experience in Finance and serving on the budget Committee as a Kansas Senator would make me a potential asset to the Wyandotte County Commission,” Gilstrap said.

Gilstrap, as a Kansas Senator helped to get the Star Bonds legislation passed in 1998 which created most of the development in the Piper area.

“The people in Wyandotte County are struggling to keep their homes due to high taxes and my record is that I have never voted to increase our taxes and I will keep that record as a Commissioner.” Gilstrap said.

Gilstrap, a Rockhurst College graduate, with a Accounting major is married to the former JoAnne Mantel who is the Pharmacist in charge at the legends Walmart and have three adult children and three grandchildren.

The Primary election date is March 3, 2015 and the General election date is April 7, 2015.
