Short's three touchdowns lead to long night for Stallions
By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com
Coming into this week, the Schlagle Stallions had a monumental task - defeating the red-hot Mill Valley Jaguars.
The challenge became tougher when the Stallions had to sit starting running back J'veyon Browning and starting quarterback D.J. Sayles on the bench due to injuries.
And as the game began, Mill Valley Jaguars senior running back Kendall Short made the night that much longer for the Schlagle Stallions.
Mill Valley handed Schlagle a 43-0 defeat to open up district play Friday night at Washington High School.
The short-handed Stallions played the Jaguars tough early on.
The Schlagle defense held Mill Valley's powerful offense in check most of the first quarter - including a goal-line stand.
However, two special teams mistakes by Schlagle would open up the flood-gates for the Jaguars.
A bad snap on a punt led to a safety, giving Mill Valley its first two points of the game.
Later in the second quarter, another bad snap on a punt forced a short kick, leaving Mill Valley a short field to score on.
That's not a good idea.
Up 8-0 following a Staton Rebeck touchdown, the Jaguars would capitalize off the favorable field position. Quarterback Skyler Windmiller hooked up on a touchdown pass to L.J. Hatch, extending the lead to 15-0.
At the end of the first half, Short became the focus of the Mill Valley attack on offense.

KCK Preps Game of the Week preview: Mill Valley visits Schlagle to open district play
By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com
KCKPreps.com
With both the Kaw Valley League and Kansas City - Kansas Atchison League being clinched last week by the Mill Valley Jaguars and Wyandotte Bulldogs respectively, it's time to begin the push for the postseason.
KCK Preps this week will be at Washington High School to broadcast the Mill Valley Jaguars-Schlagle Stallions game.
As we always do at KCK Preps, we try our best to hype up the game and to get everyone prepared.
Here are some quick game notes and keys to the ballgame.
1. Mill Valley is on fire more than the City of Los Angeles is each time the Lakers win an NBA title - and I say that as a Lakers fan. Joking aside, after a season opening loss to Manhattan, Mill Valley has been on a roll. In their five-game winning streak, the Jaguars have outscored the competition 267-43. The Jaguars should be considered the heavy favorites in this district. Some teams don't live up to the preseason hype given to them. Mill Valley definitely has.

KCK Preps: McKinzy, Bulldogs defense lead comeback against Schlagle
By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com
After two lengthy drives by the Schlagle Stallions offense in the second quarter, it appeared the Stallions were going to cruise to another league victory Friday night at Wyandotte High School.
Instead, Wyandotte's defense became a brick wall and quarterback Dimonic McKinzy became Harry Houdini as the Bulldogs cameback in the second half to win 19-13.
The KCKAL over the years has garnered a reputation of all offense and little defense. That was not the case Friday night, as both defenses put on a strong display of tackling and physical play.
Early on, it was Schlagle's Trevon Wallace, Derrick Gibbs and D.J. Sayles who led the defensive effort against Wyandotte's high flying attack on offense. Gibbs earned an early sack, while Wallace and Sayles were flying all over the field.
Schlagle's defense held Wyandotte on a goal-line stand early on in what was the deepest drive of the first quarter.

KCK Preps Game of the Week Preview: Schlagle Stallions at Wyandotte Bulldogs
By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com
Ah, the old-school Schlagle-Wyandotte rivalry is back, at least for one season.
KCKPreps.com will be broadcasting tonight's Schlagle-Wyandotte game live from Wyandotte High School. David Brox and I will kickoff the pregame show at about 6:30 p.m.
Wyandotte comes into the game following a disappointing loss to Atchison, while Schlagle has won two games in a row following a loss to Shawnee Heights.
Both teams are 3-1 overall, while Schlagle is undefeated in the Kansas City Kansas - Atchison League. Wyandotte is 2-1.
The Stallions have won eight straight games inside the KCKAL dating back to 2010.
Here are some keys to keep that streak going.

From Bill Snyder to Bob Stoops: Schlagle football coaching staff played, learned from the best
By VERNON BIRMINGHAM, KCKPreps.com
If you knew a coaching staff’s tree included names like Bill Snyder, Bob and Mike Stoops, Nick Saban, Bill Cowher and Gary Barnett, you would try to think which NFL or college staff they belonged to.
You would even begin to think about the number of national titles or Super Bowls in this circle.
Well, the answer is simple: zero.
This coaching staff is based in Wyandotte County and you can find them on Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas.
This is the staff new Schlagle Stallions head football coach Martez Wesley pieced together. Among this group you will find coaches who have learned under some of the best coaches in the nation.
Combined, the Stallions coaching staff owns 17 years of Division 1 and 12 years of professional playing experience in the NFL and AFL. This staff enters the season with a little pressure considering the Stallions return major pieces from a team that went 7-2 last season, winning the KCAL title.
Needless to say - expectations are high and many are keeping their eyes on the calls from the sidelines.
Wesley, the former Schlagle stand-out, takes over the program in his first head coaching opportunity on the gridiron. During his time in the Schlagle football program, he starred at both quarterback and wide receiver.
This success earned him a scholarship to Kansas State University, where he played under legendary coach Bill Snyder.
