Sporting Kansas City was drawn into Group 2 of the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League at the official draw Monday night and will face C.D. Olimpia of Honduras and Real Estelí FC of Nicaragua.

Sporting KC qualified for the tournament by winning the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Olimpia qualified after winning the 2012 Apertura and 2013 Clausura tournaments in Honduras and Real Estelí finished with the best aggregate record in the Nicaraguan first division in 2012-13.

This is Sporting KC's first appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League although the team advanced to the semifinals and quarterfinals of the 2002 and 2005 CONCACAF Champions' Cup tournaments, respectively.

Olimpia is the most successful team in Honduras. Los Leones have won 27 domestic league titles and are participating in their sixth consecutive Champions League tournament.

Real Estelí have won 13 domestic titles in Nicaragua and are competing in the CONCACAF Champions League for the fourth time.

Exact dates and times of the group stage matches will be announced in the coming weeks. Each team will play each other team in a home-and-home series with the first place team advancing to the quarterfinal round, which will take place in March 2014.

The winner of the Champions League tournament will earn a berth in the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup.

Tickets for the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League will go on sale after the announcement of the schedule and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.com or at the Sporting Park Box Offices. Both Champions League group stage home matches are included in the Season Ticket Member Package.
