Unified Government Transit route along Leavenworth Road changing

During the week of Jan. 4, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority makes changes to several Metro routes.

The changes are designed to help keep buses on schedule and improve the efficiency of several routes in Kansas City, Mo.

One person killed in crash on 63rd and Leavenworth Road; UPDATE - Seven-year-old confirmed as person killed

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- One person was killed during a police chase in Kansas City, Kan., Wednesday night.

The chase began at 63rd and Parallel Parkway at around 8:30 p.m. Police say a driver sped away following a normal traffic stop.

The chase ended up in a crash at 63rd and Leavenworth Road.

The Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed that one person was killed, but it's unknown whether it was the driver or someone else in the area.

Additional injuries have also been reported, but again information is limited.

UPDATE 10:46 a.m. : In a very sad turn for this story, a 7-year-old girl was killed as a result of the crash. Jasmine Rodriguez was riding in a second vehicle that was struck by the Chevy Impala that was being chased by police officers.

Tyrone Murphy, 27, was arrested by police after the crash. The mother of the daughter taken to the hospital. Her injuries are unknown at this time.

Philbrook to host Leavenworth Road town hall forum

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Unified Government Commissioners Jane Philbrook will be hosting a Town Hall forum on the future of Leavenworth Road.

Trinity Community Church, located at 5010 Parallel Parkway, will host the forum on Oct. 15.

It begins with a meet and greet session with UG staff from 6-6:45 p.m. The forum itself begins at 6:45 p.m.

The future of the Leavenworth Road corridor will be the topic discussed at the forum.

Members of the community are welcomed and encouraged to bring their own ideas.

KCKPD in standoff with possible homicide suspect on Leavenworth Road; UPDATE: It's over

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department have surrounded a home on 61st and Leavenworth Road - a location police believe contains a person wanted in connection to a recent double homicide.

Police responded to a tip early Friday and remain on the scene right now.

Two individuals - Laura Mitchie and Monty Taylor - were killed last Saturday in a shooting that wounded two other people in the area. The shooting took place on the 1300 Block of Roswell Avenue.

Officers have blocked off the road on 61st Street, so those traveling in the area should expect some delays.

UPDATE 3:06 p.m. - Via KMBC Channel 9 news, the stand-off ended peacefully at 1:30 p.m.

Road construction work is on-going on Leavenworth Road, just east of Interstate 635.

There is a bit of a traffic delay on the street, so if you travel the road during the day, expect to wait a few minutes.
