KANSAS CITY TRAFFIC ALERT: I-435 at Swartz Road for June 7

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Northbound and southbound I-435 at Swartz Road interchange will be reduced to one open lane (two left lanes closed) each direction as traffic is stopped briefly (approximately 10-15 minutes) via a rolling (moving) roadblock for utility work on Sunday, June 7 between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., weather permitting (Wyandotte County).

This rolling roadblock is needed so that utility crews can safely install a new fiber optic cable over I-435.

Kansas Highway Patrol will assist with the rolling roadblock to safely guide I-435 traffic as utility crews work to install the line across the roadway.

The rolling (moving) roadblock is scheduled to take approximately 10-15 minutes, pending any unplanned delays.

Traffic will travel through the work zone via signage and law enforcement vehicles via the rolling roadblock. Drivers should expect a delay of up to 15 minutes during the rolling roadblock and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

KANSAS CITY METRO TRAFFIC ALERT: I-70 to I-35 southbound ramp bridge will open June 1

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Following an extensive repair, the closed I-70 eastbound to I-35 southbound ramp bridge will reopen June 1.

The ramp bridge was temporarily closed April 14 after a routine inspection found significant deterioration to the structure. Initially the closure was to last 2-3 weeks. However, MoDOT determined a more extensive fix was the appropriate action which will require more time.

The deteriorated section of the structure will be replaced. The replacement will include the addition of 1,416 new bolts and adding 7,500 pounds of steel.

By extending the project by several weeks for a more comprehensive repair, crews should not have to return for future repairs to the section.
