KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- An individual wanted for aggravated robbery was killed following a police chase that started in Wyandotte County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the pursuit began shortly after 9 a.m. on Friday following a carjacking in the area. It began in Edwardsville, Kan., crossed into Missouri and ended on Ruby Avenue in Kansas City, Kan., where the suspect was shot by officers at the scene.

TRAFFIC: Kansas Highway Patrol offers tips on Thanksgiving travel
KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- This week, Kansas roads will be busy with holiday travelers going to and from their destinations.
The Kansas Highway Patrol will mobilize, along with other law enforcement organizations across the state, to participate in the annual Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). The enforcement program is courtesy of a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The Patrol and other agencies will focus on impaired drivers, child passenger safety laws, and seat belt use among travelers of all ages. Because of the STEP campaign funding, there will be more law enforcement officers on Kansas’ streets and highways during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday period when travel increases in Kansas and across the nation.
According to preliminary KDOT stats, during the 2013 Thanksgiving reporting period, there were 569 collisions, resulting in 150 injuries, and six deaths.
The Patrol and other agencies will focus on impaired drivers, child passenger safety laws, and seat belt use among travelers of all ages. One person killed in crash on 63rd and Leavenworth Road; UPDATE - Seven-year-old confirmed as person killed
KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- One person was killed during a police chase in Kansas City, Kan., Wednesday night.
The chase began at 63rd and Parallel Parkway at around 8:30 p.m. Police say a driver sped away following a normal traffic stop.
The chase ended up in a crash at 63rd and Leavenworth Road.
The Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed that one person was killed, but it's unknown whether it was the driver or someone else in the area.
Additional injuries have also been reported, but again information is limited.

UPDATE 10:46 a.m. : In a very sad turn for this story, a 7-year-old girl was killed as a result of the crash. Jasmine Rodriguez was riding in a second vehicle that was struck by the Chevy Impala that was being chased by police officers.
Tyrone Murphy, 27, was arrested by police after the crash. The mother of the daughter taken to the hospital. Her injuries are unknown at this time.

Man killed in wrong-way accident on I-70 in KCK
KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- A 35-year-old man was killed in a wrong-way car accident Friday evening in Kansas City, Kan.
Karl Silvey was riding as a passenger in the car of a female when it entered Interstate 70 via an exit ramp. While traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-70, the vehicle was hit by a semi-truck that was traveling east.
The head-on collision killed Silvey, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The woman was injured and transported to a local hospital. She was in critical condition at last report. Her name has not been released by law enforcement.
According to the police, the driver of the semi-truck said the accident was unavoidable.
Police also say that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- Prior to the forecasted snow event slated for tonight and tomorrow in much of the state, the Kansas Highway Patrol and Troop A personnel, would like to advise the public of the following information.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m. today, February 3rd, 2014, the Kansas Highway Patrol will be towing vehicles abandoned on:
This process will be in until all the roadways are clear from this event and traffic is flowing normally. The purpose for the towing of the abandoned vehicles is to facilitate snow removal and keep the roadway open for emergency vehicles.
The normal, 48-hour grace period will not be in effect during this snow event.
The Kansas Highway Patrol strongly urges individuals to stay in their vehicles if they get stuck or become involved in a collision, and to call 911 or *47 (*HP) on their cell phones.
The safest place for vehicle occupants during a snow event is inside their vehicles with their seatbelts on.

KCK employee killed in Topeka accident

A man working as a contract employee for a Kansas City, Kan., business was killed Sunday morning in Topeka, Kan.
Curtis Harlan, 22, was killed after a car hit him in a construction zone on Interstate 470 at around 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
He died at the scene.
Harlan was an employee working for R.A. Knapp Construction, a KCK business hired by the Kansas Department of Transportation to work on a repair project on the highway.
It was the second accident involving a construction zone in Topeka. As a result, KDOT is urging travelers who use Kansas highways to be careful.
“Drivers, the heat is on and our crews are out working hard to improve our highways,” said Kimberly Qualls, KDOT spokesperson. “Please give our workers plenty of room, be patient, focus on the road, and take it SLOW through the construction work zones.”
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
