At 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, the 72nd Street bridge over eastbound and westbound I-70 will be CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, through early December 2013, so crews can repair work on the bridge from damage incurred by a October 3rd bridge strike by a dump truck completing work on the I-70 resurfacing project (see traffic alert below for more information) in Wyandotte County. (See related project closures below map too.)
No marked detour will be provided during the 35-day 72nd Street Bridge closure. Drivers will need to use alternate routes during the bridge closure.
In addition, the following lane and ramp closures will take place Monday, November 1 through Tuesday, November 5, weather permitting, for the 72nd Street bridge repair work.
Friday, November 1 to reopen at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2 - Remove damaged bridge girder

• 11:00 p.m. Close all lanes of eastbound I-70 at 78th Street
Saturday, November 2 to reopen at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3 - Remove damaged bridge girder

Note: Eastbound I-70 traffic will be stopped for a short period after midnight via a rolling roadblock by local law enforcement so that crews can set the new bridge girder.
A marked detour will be provided via northbound 78th Street to eastbound State Avenue to southbound College Parkway during the overnight roadway closures. See aerial map below for marked detour route. Drivers should expect delays and must use alternate routes during the overnight closures.
EXPECT DELAYS! Beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, eastbound and westbound I-70 from K-7 to 110th Street (Wyandotte County) will be reduced to one lane in each direction for a rolling roadblock conducted by the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) and the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) for the setting of bridge girders for the new Riverview Avenue Bridge. Each rolling moving roadblock is scheduled to take approximately 15 minutes each, pending any unplanned delays.
These rolling roadblock closures have been rescheduled from Thursday-Friday, July 18-19 to Tuesday-Wednesday, July 23-24.
During the rolling moving roadblocks, all traffic will be stopped at the entrance ramps to eastbound and westbound I-70 from K-7 and 110th Street for these brief closures. KTA and KHP personnel will slow motorists down from the I-70 interchange entrances to give the contractor time to cut the girders and swing them safely out of the way. All work will be completed and all eastbound and westbound I-70 lanes will be reopened to unrestricted traffic by 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, July 24.
Traffic will travel through the work zone via signage and the moving rolling roadblocks. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes during each rolling moving roadblock and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.

On Monday, March 18, 2013, a replacement project began on the Riverview Avenue Bridge spanning over I-70 in Wyandotte County. This is the first part of the ten-phase K-7 and I-70 Interchange Project.
Project work includes replacement of the existing bridge along with the realignment of a section of Riverview Avenue and 122nd Street to accommodate the new longer bridge. (KDOT Project #70-105 KA 1003-06)
EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 LANE CLOSURE: Westbound Central Avenue Viaduct right through lane just before the traffic signal located at the entrance ramp to eastbound I-70 is NOW CLOSED for emergency bridge deck repair work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning TODAY, Wednesday-Monday, July 17-22.
On Thursday, July 18, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the eastbound and westbound Central Avenue to eastbound I-70 ramp movements will also be closed to all traffic so crews can complete the bridge deck repair work.
No marked detour will be provided during the ramp closure. Drivers should expect some delays through the project work zone and should allow extra time for their daily commutes.

As of 9:15 a.m. TODAY, there are several I-435 and I-70 interchange ramps CLOSED due to a semi rollover incident. NB I-435 to EB I-70; EB I-70 to SB I-435 and SB I-435 to EB I-70 ramps are closed. Use alternate routes and avoid the area if at all possible.
For phase one of the project, beginning on Monday, July 30 at 9:00 a.m., eastbound I-70 will be reduced to two open lanes (two lane closed) across the Lewis and Clark Viaduct, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. Traffic will be restricted to two 11-foot lanes with a posted speed limit of 45 mph through the project work zone. As well, the ramps from Washington Boulevard eastbound I-70 and from Fairfax Avenue to eastbound I-70 will be closed will be closed during phase one work. A marked detour will be provided. Traffic will detour via Minnesota Avenue to eastbound I-70.
For phase two of the project, eastbound I-70 will be closed at 3rd Street, 24/7 round the clock, for the duration of the project. A marked detour will be provided. Traffic will detour via 3rd Street to Minnesota Avenue then back to eastbound I-70. Traffic will remain in two open lanes (two lanes closed) across the Lewis and Clark Viaduct. Traffic will continue to be restricted to two 11-foot lanes with a posted speed limit of 45 mph through the project work zone. The ramp from Washington Boulevard to eastbound I-70 will remain closed. Advance notification will be sent under separate cover when phase two of the project begins.
