Google Fiber Update: 21 green Fiberhoods; 12 more within 14 registrations

As the September 9 deadline approaches for the pre-registration process for Google Fiber in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., more and more Fiberhoods are inching closer to their goals.

As of early Wednesday morning, 21 Fiberhoods in KCK have met their goals.

Meanwhile, another 12 Fiberhoods are within 14 registrations or fewer of reaching the required number of pre-registrations.

Key notes:

• Emerson is just two more registrations away from meeting the goal. 

• Two key KCK middle schools are within reach of the goal - Eisenhower Middle School and Central Middle School. The Central Fiberhood is just 14 more away, while Eisenhower Park is within 12 registrations. 

• As of just after midnight Thursday, Miland Pump Station and Riverview Park are just four more away. 

• Others within reach: County 5 (6), Quindaro (8), Silver City (9), City Park (10), Prescott (11) and Memorial Park (13).

Google Fiber Update: A glance at how the middle schools are doing

First, there's no new "Green Fiberhood" to report on today. No Fiberhood joined the club of 11 on Thursday.

Yesterday, I posted on how the high schools within the Fiberhoods in Kansas City, Kan., are doing. Today, you get to see how the middle schools are shaping up.

These numbers might be off by two or three by the time you see them. It took me a little while digging up all the middle schools, so the numbers might be a few off due to the time. Forgive me.

• Anyway, let's start with the two middle schools that have secured Google Fiber - Rosedale Middle School and Resurrection Catholic School. It's all good for both schools. 

• Piper Middle School is 15 registrations away as of Midnight on Friday morning. The Piper Schools Fiberhood has added a handful of registrations a day, so I imagine Piper Middle School could come off this list within a week.

• Turner Middle School, meanwhile, is inching pretty close to the finish line. Their Alvey Park Fiberhood is just 16 registrations away and like the Piper Schools Fiberhood, there's been enough registrations over the past few weeks to make me feel confident about that happening. 

• I'm going to include the KCK Public Schools District's middle schools together. Eisenhower Middle School (located in Eisenhower Park Fiberhood) is 48 registrations away. Central Middle School (Central Fiberhood) is 21 registrations away; Argentine (Silver City) is 45 away; Northwest Magnet School (Klamm) is 34 away; West Middle School (William White) is 47 away, Coronado Middle School (Coronado) is 72 away and Arrowhead Middle School (Arrowhead) is a whopping 270 registrations away. Again, Rosedale has already exceeded the goal. 

• The Kansas School for the Blind is 83 registrations away. They're located in the Downtown Fiberhood. 

• Private/Religion Schools: Christ the King (Welborn Park) is 52 registrations away; Our Lady of Unity (Junction School) is 33 away; Holy Name Catholic (Southwest Boulevard) needs 24 more and Lindsay Seventh Day Adventist School (Kennsington) is 42 away. Resurrection Catholic School is good to go.  

All Fiberhoods are in parenthesis above.

I believe those are all the middle schools in KCK that are listed as Fiberhoods. St. Patrick's School and Muncie Christian Elementary School do not have Fiberhoods based on the map there, so I'm not sure what happens for them.

Google Fiber Update: More of KCK is slowly turning green

As the September 9 deadline for Google Fiber approaches, more and more Fiberhoods in Kansas City, Kan., is slowly itching towards their registration goals.

There are nine Fiberhoods who have met or exceeded their goals: Hanover Heights, Dubs Dread, Frank Rushton, North KU Med, Rosedale Arch, Pearson School, Strawberry Hill, Wyandotte High School and Cambridge Circle.

In the past 48 hours, the Hanover Heights and Dubs Dread Fiberhoods have exchanged the lead in KCK at least six different times - maybe more.

More good news: The Bethel Fiberhood is just one more registration away as of early Wednesday morning. West Height is just three more away, while the Wyandotte Center is eight more registrations away from reaching its goal.

The Washington High School Fiberhood is 10 more away.

Google Fiber Update: Two more Fiberhoods reach goal in Kansas City, Kan.

Eight Fiberhoods in Kansas City, Kan., have reached their registration goals.

Two more joined the original six this weekend, as the Wyandotte High School and Cambridge Circle Fiberhoods joined the party.

With the Wyandotte High School Fiberhood meeting their goals, Wyandotte High School, Bishop Ward High School, Mark Twain Elementary School and Donnelly College will receive the high-speed Internet technology for free.

Fiberhoods closing in:

- Dubs Dread needs just seven more to match their goal.

- The West Height Fiberhood needs just four more registrations.

- Wyandotte Center is just 10 more away, while Washington High School and Miland Pump Station are just 12 and 13 more away.

Google Fiber Morning Update - August 1

There are now a total of six Kansas City, Kan., Fiberhoods that have met their pre-registration goals for Google Fiber.

Recently joining the club were the Frank Rushton and Pearson School Fiberhoods.

With both exceeding their goals, a number of schools and community centers will now receive Google Fiber for free.

M.E. Pearson, McKinley Elementary School, Resurrection Catholic School, Bethany Recreation Center and Frank Rushton Elementary School will now receive the high-speed Internet.

Fiberhoods nearing their goals:

- Cambridge Circle is now just seven registrations away.

- The Wyandotte Center is area is down to 11 more.

- West Height and Quindaro are both 14 more registrations away from Google Fiber.

Google Fiber Morning Update: July 31 - Two more Fiberhoods exceed goal

As we head into August, two more "Fiberhoods" have met their Google Fiber registration goal.

Yesterday, the Strawberry Hill and Rosedale Arch Fiberhoods turned from yellow to green as a handful of residents signed up for the service.

Among the Fiberhoods closing in on their goal:

• Cambridge Circle is just seven more registrations away.

• The Wyandotte Center Fiberhood needs just 11 more registrations.

• While they're still a number of registrations away, the Dubs Dread and Piper Schools Fiberhoods are signing up in significant numbers. Nearly 20 percent of residents in the Dubs Dread area have already signed up for it, while 15 percent of the Piper Schools Fiberhood have signed up. If the Piper Schools Fiberhood meets their goal, the entire Piper School District will receive Google Fiber for free.

Google Fiber Morning Update: July 30 - KCMO outracing KCK's Fiberhoods

In a roll reversal of recent economic history, Kansas City, Mo., is ahead of Kansas City, Kan., in the race to register for Google Fiber.

While the number of Fiberhoods that have clinched the Google Fiber service remains at three, over 20 percent of the Fiberhoods in Kansas City, Mo., have exceeded their registration goals.

There's some good news for KCK, however.

The Rosedale Arch Fiberhood is just two more homes away from matching their goal, while Strawberry Hill is just three more away.

Unfortunately, it's still pretty clear that KCK is lagging behind KCMO in the race.

Google Fiber Morning Update: July 29

The number of neighborhoods in Kansas City, Kan., that have exceeded the registration goal for Google Fiber remains at three.

However, two neighborhoods are just a handful away from meeting their goals.

The "Rosedale Arch" and "Strawberry Hill" neighborhoods are within reach of their goals. Just four more people in the Strawberry Hill area need to register for Google Fiber, while the Rosedale Arch area is just six more people away.

Again, the cost to register is $10 and the goal must be met by September 9.
